Baseball Recap: Bartlett Takes a Loss

Bartlett had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-13 to make it ten. They lost 9-0 to the Chugiak Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 last Friday.

As for Chugiak, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-9. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.

For Chugiak's part, the result came thanks to Jonah Shearer's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks. Shearer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Owen Dockstader and Blake Yawit did most of the damage at the plate: Dockstader went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Yawit went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Dockstader a new career-high. Jack Carron was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Coincidentally, Bartlett and Chugiak will both be playing Bettye Davis East Anchorage the next time they take the field. The Mustangs will head out to face the Thunderbirds at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Golden Bears will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
