Softball Game Preview: Colonial Grenadiers vs. Lake Nona Lions

Colonial is 0-10 against Lake Nona since February of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. Colonial will face off against Lake Nona at 6:00 p.m. Colonial has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Colonial is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They lost 18-3 to Boone.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lake Nona). They put the hurt on Jones with a sharp 16-0 victory on Thursday. With that win, the Lions brought their scoring average up to 8.5 runs per game.

Maria Trujillo made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Trujillo was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Valeria Rivera, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That stolen base was her first of the season. Alexandra Rodriguez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Lake Nona always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .778. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Colonial's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Lake Nona, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Colonial came up short against Lake Nona in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 8-5. Can Colonial avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
