Basketball Recap: Jackson Starts Season with Win Against Mary Persons

Jackson took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They came out on top against the Mary Persons Bulldogs by a score of 73-66. This was payback for the Red Devils, who suffered a 45-41 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Leading Jackson to victory were Amarion Watson and Jacen Hamm. Watson went 7-for-11 to rack up 22 points, while Hamm almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Those 18 points gave Hamm a new career-high. Ethan Smith was another key player, putting up nine points.

Jackson was working as a unit and finished the game with 26 assists. They racked up 14 more assists than Mary Persons' also-impressive total of 12.

Mary Persons' loss came despite strong showings from Dee Grier and Chaz Stokes. Grier dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards, while Stokes posted 11 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Braylen Perry, who had six points and seven rebounds.

Jackson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 72-64 loss against Stockbridge on the 22nd. As for Mary Persons, they have also already played their next contest, a 55-52 defeat against Fayette County on the 2nd.
