Baseball Recap: Coronado Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Coronado hadn't done well against Pueblo Centennial recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Bulldogs. With that victory, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Bentlee White tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, Turner Whitney was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Coronado's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-7 when he doesn't). Billy Ratican was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one stolen base.

The win (which was Coronado's third in a row) raised their record to 4-7. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Pueblo Centennial, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.

Coming up, Coronado will face off against Palmer Ridge at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Pueblo Centennial, they will square off against Pueblo Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
