Basketball Game Preview: American Fork Cavemen vs. Copper Hills Grizzlies

The American Fork Cavemen will head out on the road to face off against the Copper Hills Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

American Fork is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Herriman 54-33. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Cavemen have posted since December 15, 2023.

Meanwhile, Copper Hills faced Mountain Ridge in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. Copper Hills narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Mountain Ridge 42-40. The win was nothing new for the Grizzlies as they're now sitting on three straight.

American Fork better keep an eye on Skylie Barker. She was instrumental in Copper Hills' win, dropping a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds. Barker has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times she's played. Abby Bush was another key player, putting up six points and four steals.

Copper Hills smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Copper Hills pushed their record up to 18-5 with the victory, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.9 points over those games. As for American Fork, their record is now 5-18.

American Fork lost to Copper Hills on the road by a decisive 53-38 margin in their previous matchup back in November of 2023. Can American Fork avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
