Soccer Game Preview: Independence vs. Sun Valley

The Independence Patriots will take on the Sun Valley Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Independence fought the good fight in their overtime match against Butler on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 3-1 to the Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, Independence can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 258th, while Butler are ranked 124th).

Meanwhile, Sun Valley kept a clean sheet against Porter Ridge last Thursday. They skirted past the Pirates 1-0. Sun Valley haven't had any issues with Porter Ridge recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Sun Valley's one-goal win came courtesy of Sophia Seddon, who's now up to 11 this season.

Independence dropped their record down to 4-9 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Sun Valley, their win bumped their record up to 10-5-2.
