Basketball Recap: Swansboro Pirates vs. Jacksonville Cardinals

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Swansboro ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged the Jacksonville Cardinals out 53-50. While the Pirates didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Swansboro found their leader in sophomore Addison King, who went 7 for 14 on her way to 19 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for King. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Hackworth, who posted 12 points along with six rebounds and three blocks.

Despite the loss, Jacksonville saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Izabella Hernandez put up 18 points and eight steals. With that strong performance, Hernandez is now averaging an impressive 2.5 steals per game. Serayah White was another key player, putting up six points and 15 rebounds.
