Basketball Recap: Luke Galer's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Del Oro over Whitney

Del Oro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 65-59 heartbreaker at the hands of the Whitney Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Golden Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 423rd, while the Wildcats are ranked 197th).

Several Golden Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Luke Galer, who posted 15 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Yarnes, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 13 points and three steals.

Del Oro's defeat dropped their record down to 8-15. As for Whitney, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 16-7.

When Del Oro and Whitney next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Del Oro will take on Rocklin and their five-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Del Oro is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.3 points per game this season. Similarly, Whitney will try to stop Jesuit's three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
