Basketball Recap: Deerfield Takes a Loss

Deerfield lost against Elkhart back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Deerfield Spartans fell 73-65 to the Elkhart Wildcats.

Despite the defeat, Deerfield saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Colten Musil posted 20 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for Musil. Cristian Botello was another key player, putting up ten points and five assists.

Deerfield's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Elkhart, they now also have a winning record of 5-4.

Deerfield will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Stanton County at 7:00 p.m. on January 27th. Deerfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.2 points per game this season. As for Elkhart, they will challenge Boise City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Elkhart is facing Boise City at the right time seeing as Boise City is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
