Baseball Game Preview: Riverside Beavers vs. Mayfield Wildcats

For the second straight game, Riverside will face off against Mayfield. The Beavers will head out on the road to challenge the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Riverside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Riverside lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Mayfield, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's contest. The Beavers were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Wildcats on Monday.

Mason Pozo tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Austin Wittreich, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Riverside's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Mo Dolce, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Riverside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.

The win got Riverside back to even at 7-7. As for Mayfield, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.
