Blacksburg and Spartanburg are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Blacksburg Wildcats will take on the Spartanburg Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Blacksburg's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Spartanburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Blacksburg is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Chesnee on Thursday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 8-2.
Blacksburg saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ema Gaut, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Spartanburg is still undefeated this season after their match against Wade Hampton on Friday, but Wade Hampton came as close as anyone has to beating them. Spartanburg came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against Wade Hampton. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vikings have posted since March 7, 2024.
Sydney Anderson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off 11 hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Carlee Richards was a standout: she scored two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Tori Earle was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 3-for-4.
Spartanburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.
Blacksburg's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Spartanburg, their record now sits at 4-0.
Blacksburg was able to grind out a solid victory over Spartanburg in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 8-5. Will Blacksburg repeat their success, or does Spartanburg have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
