Softball Recap: Smithville Comes Up Short

Smithville made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Chippewa, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Smithies fell just short of the Chipps by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. The Smithies have struggled against the Chipps recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

ZeAnna Cyrus spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Smithville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kiersten Ross, who went 2-for-4 with one double. That double marked the first that Ross has hit this season.

Smithville's defeat dropped their record down to 4-17. As for Chippewa, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-12.

Smithville has already played their next match, an 8-4 loss against Crestview on the 14th. As for Chippewa, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 14-0 defeat against Girard on the 14th.
