Bloomfield is on an 18-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Caledonia-Mumford is on a six-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Bombers will welcome the Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Bloomfield barely beat Pembroke the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bombers blew past the Dragons 8-1 on Tuesday.
Ashlyn Wright was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Bloomfield got a big performance out of Addison Falsone, who went 3-for-4 with two runs. That's the most hits Falsone has posted since back in April. Brianna Leitten was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Bloomfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Caledonia-Mumford got the win against Byron-Bergen on Tuesday by a conclusive 14-2. The victory continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Bees: they've now won three in a row.
Like Bloomfield, Caledonia-Mumford also got a great game from a two-way player: Grace Beach. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Beach was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Mia Wilson was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Audrey Padlick-Field, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Bloomfield's win bumped their record up to 17-1. As for Caledonia-Mumford, their victory bumped their record up to 16-4.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bloomfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. However, it's not like Caledonia-Mumford struggles in that department as they've averaged .356. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bloomfield skirted past Caledonia-Mumford 9-8 in their previous matchup back in May of 2022. Do the Bombers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
