Traip extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-3 in the process. They lost 14-5 to the Old Orchard Beach Seagulls. Surprisingly, this marked the Rangers' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Chris Balano was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off one hit. Balano was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one run.
Balano wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dylan D'Auteuil, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Jack Downs was another, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Old Orchard Beach, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0. Surprisingly, this marked their fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Like Traip, Old Orchard Beach also got a great game from a two-way player: Colby Salamacha. He struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Salamacha was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Trot Moody was incredible, going 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Moody is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least two every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Daniel Cashman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Looking ahead, Traip will be playing at home against Waynflete at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Old Orchard Beach, they will challenge St. Dominic at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
