Softball Recap: Bishop Hartley Has No Trouble Against Bexley

While Bishop Hartley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the Bexley Lions 17-8 on Saturday. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by seven runs or more this season.

Jasmine Wooten made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Wooten was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, Nia Johnson was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. MaryKate LeMay was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

The win made it two in a row for Bishop Hartley and bumps their season record up to 6-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Bexley, they are on a 22-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, Bishop Hartley will host Centerburg at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Centerburg's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Bishop Hartley's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Bexley, they will head out to square off against Buckeye Valley at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. The contest will give Bexley their first taste of in-conference action this season.
