Softball Recap: East River Extends Winning Streak to Five

East River waltzed into their matchup on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the Innovation Bulls by a score of 8-4. With that win, the Falcons brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Katherine Sanchez made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Mady Alvarado and Gaby Angueira did most of the damage at the plate: Alvarado scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Angueira went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was Angueira's first of the season. Joslyn Schneck was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

East River pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Innovation, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.

East River didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 4-3 victory against Timber Creek on the 11th. As for Innovation, they have also already played their next game, an 11-1 win against Colonial on the 9th.
