MaxPreps Top 25 high school football scores: No. 16 Santa Margarita gets statement win over No. 6 Mater Dei 7-6

By Zack Poff Oct 10, 2025, 9:30pm

Don Bosco Prep joined rankings for first time in 11 years and face big test Saturday at St. Joseph Regional.

No. 16 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) head coach Carson Palmer added another signature win by taking down No. 6 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 7-6 in Southern California on Friday.

Down 6-0 with five minutes left in the fourth quarter, USC commit Trent Mosley took a wildcat snap and ran the ball in for a Santa Margarita touchdown to take a 7-6 lead.

Mater Dei quickly drove the ball near field. But on four straight plays the Monarchs were stifled by the Eagles defense and turned the ball over on downs.

Santa Margarita was able to run out the clock and end an 11-game losing streak to the Monarchs.

The Eagles are now 5-2 in Palmer’s first year as head coach. It’s the second signature win of the year for Santa Margarita, which also beat No. 5 Centennial (Corona) in August.

No. 1 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) improved to 7-0 with a 48-0 win over Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.). Sophomore quarterback Koa Malau'ulu threw touchdowns to Daniel Odom, Madden Williams and Carson Clark, bringing his total to 23 scoring strikes this season. This is the third shutout of the season for St. John Bosco.

No. 12 DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) moved to 6-0 after defeating rival Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) 7-0. The game was scoreless until midway through the fourth quarter when Tristan Sabb found Penn State commit Lavar Keys in the end zone for six. DeMatha sealed the win by forcing a fumble with under two minutes to play.

In Georgia, Dayton Raiola was on fire as No. 9 Buford defeated Dacula 58-7 on Thursday. The senior Nebraska commit slung four touchdown passes and ran for another as the Wolves improved to 7-0. Senior Torre Costin hauled in two of those touchdown throws.

No. 10 Edna Karr (New Orleans, La.) extended its winning streak to 20 games after rolling to a 48-13 win over Brother Martin (New Orleans, La.) on Thursday.

Senior quarterback John Johnson continued his magnificent senior season by passing for a touchdown and running for four more.

The Edna Karr defense didn’t allow the Crusaders to get anything going on offense. In the second quarter linebacker Kevin Martin Jr. scooped up a fumble and returned it for a touchdown.

No. 14 Carrollton (Ga.) scored early and often in its 56-7 win over Chapel Hill (Douglasville, Ga.) on Friday. Freshman C.J. Cypher threw three touchdowns, one of which was a 50-yard bomb to Rontre Welch. Welch started the game off by returning the opening kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown. The Trojans are now 8-0 with two games left in the regular season.

No. 23 Clay-Chalkville (Pinson, Ala.) is now 8-0 after winning on the road at Huffman (Birmingham, Ala.) 56-6.

Senior running back Joshua Woods rushed for three touchdowns while quarterback Aaron Frye threw for two scores. In the second half sophomore defensive lineman E.J. Penn picked up a fumble and rumbled 25 yards for a touchdown.

No. 25 Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) is off to a 5-0 start for the first time since 2011 and joined the MaxPreps Top 25 last week. They have a huge road test Saturday against St. Joseph Regional (Montvale, N.J.). The Green Knights are 4-1 and coming off a bye week. Bosco is 8-8 against St. Joseph since 2012.
