MaxPreps Top 25 high school football scores: No. 6 Mater Dei takes on No. 16 Santa Margarita

This week's only MaxPreps Top 25 matchup takes place in Southern California's Trinity League as No. 6 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) hosts No. 16 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) on Friday.

Mater Dei has won 11 in a row in the series dating back to 2011. 

Both teams have experience against nationally-ranked opponents this season with Mater Dei sporting a 2-1 record in those contests and Santa Margarita going 1-1.

No. 1 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) improved to 6-0 with a 70-21 win over JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) last week and face a tough Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.) squad Friday. The top-ranked Braves are looking for their 17th-straight victory over the Lancers (3-3).

Dayton Raiola was on fire as No. 9 Buford (Buford, Ga.) defeated Dacula (Ga.) 58-7 on Thursday. The senior Nebraska commit slung four touchdown passes and ran for another as the Wolves improved to 7-0. Senior Torre Costin hauled in two of those touchdown throws.

No. 10 Edna Karr (New Orleans, La.) extended its winning streak to 20 games after rolling to a 48-13 win over Brother Martin (New Orleans, La.) on Thursday.

Senior quarterback John Johnson continued his magnificent senior season by passing for a touchdown and running for four more. 

The Edna Karr defense didn’t allow the Crusaders to get anything going on offense. In the second quarter linebacker Kevin Martin Jr. scooped up a fumble and returned it for a touchdown. 

No. 12 DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) cruised through non-conference action with a 5-0 record, winning by an average margin of 31.8 points per game. The Stags begin WCAC play on Friday against Good Counsel (Olney, Md.), who they own a 15-9 record against since 2010.

No. 25 Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) is off to a 5-0 start for the first time since 2011 and joined the MaxPreps Top 25 last week. They have a huge road test Saturday against St. Joseph Regional (Montvale, N.J.). The Green Knights are 4-1 and coming off a bye week. Bosco is 8-8 against St. Joseph since 2012.
