Football Recap: Smithville Takes a Loss

After soaring to 36 points the game before, Smithville was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They were dealt a 47-7 loss at the hands of the Giddings Buffaloes. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 40-7 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Kyle Montgomery and Corbin Medack. Montgomery rushed for 170 yards and three TDs while picking up 7.7 yards per carry while Medack rushed for 104 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries. Those 170 rushing yards gave Montgomery a new career-high.

Smithville's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Giddings, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smithville will head out to take on La Grange at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Giddings, they will venture away from home to challenge Salado at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
