Football Recap: Dion Savage's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mt. Morris over Birch Run

While it was Mt. Morris who put the first points on the board on Friday, it was Birch Run who put up more. Mt. Morris fell 29-16 to Birch Run. While losing is never fun, Mt. Morris can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 430th, while Birch Run is ranked 199th).

Mt. Morris' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dion Savage, who rushed for 90 yards and one score. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Gilbert, who rushed for 39 yards and one TD.

Mt. Morris didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Juewelz Redwine and Maserati Arrington.

Mt. Morris is on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3. As for Birch Run, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Looking ahead, Mt. Morris is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will challenge Chesaning at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Birch Run, they will host New Lothrop at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Hornets have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
