Softball Recap: Grants Beats Valencia for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Grants proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 15) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 victory over the Valencia Jaguars. The win was nothing new for the Pirates as they're now sitting on five straight.

Alynn Othole looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run over four innings pitched.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Delilah Martinez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrhyanna Garcia, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Grants' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-8. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Valencia, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Grants will challenge Newcomb at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The Pirates are facing the Skyhawks at the right time seeing as the Skyhawks are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Valencia, they will face off against Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
