Basketball Recap: Maclay Skates Past St. John Paul II with Ease

Maclay had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 28-point drubbing they dealt St. John Paul II on Friday. The Maclay Marauders claimed a resounding 60-32 win over the St. John Paul II Panthers. This was a revenge game for the Marauders: when they faced off against the Panthers back in December of 2024, they had to take a 45-44 defeat.

Maclay's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nash Beshears led the charge by putting up four points along with eight steals and five assists. The dominant performance gave Beshears a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Andrew Lunt, who posted nine points and six boards.

Beshears wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Maclay was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why St. John Paul II lost, don't look at Mario Forbes. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Forbes is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season.

Maclay's record now sits at 8-13. As for St. John Paul II, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.

Maclay has already played their next game, a 76-70 victory against Marianna on the 1st. St. John Paul II does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
