Basketball Recap: Sonora Takes a Loss

Sonora played a tough matchup on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Christoval Cougars 59-22. The defeat continues a trend for the Broncos in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now lost nine in a row.

Despite the loss, Sonora saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kyndall Weston posted five points and five boards. The dominant performance also gave Weston a new career-high in blocks (two).

Even though they lost, Sonora smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Sonora's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-8. As for Christoval, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 21 of their last 23 games, which provided a nice bump to their 26-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sonora has already played their next match (against Roscoe), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Christoval will look to defend their home court on Monday against Miles at 6:00 p.m. Christoval will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
