Baseball Recap: Pontotoc Snaps Three-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Pontotoc walked away with it. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cleveland Central Wolves a 9-0 shutout on Saturday. The Warriors not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since March 8th (when they won 10-0).

Corbyn Clayton made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Braxton Whiteside was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Luke Blanchard, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Pontotoc's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 18-10. As for Cleveland Central, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-13.

Pontotoc will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wolves: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
