Softball Recap: McMinn County Find Success

McMinn County took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Bradley Central, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cherokees skirted past the Bears 5-4. This was a revenge game for the Cherokees: when they faced off against the Bears back in March, they had to take a 16-9 defeat.

Bailey Derrick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Trinity Riedel, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

McMinn County's victory bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Bradley Central, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-10-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McMinn County will head out to challenge Roane County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Bradley Central, they will venture away from home to square off against Chattanooga Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chargers will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Bears surely won't give up without a fight.
