Volleyball Recap: Wynford Triumphs

Wynford took a three-set loss the last time they faced off against Seneca East, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Royals had just enough and edged out the Tigers 3-2 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Royals have posted since August 20, 2024.

Wynford had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 22-25, 25-13, 27-25, 15-3.

Makayla Morgan went supernova, getting 19 digs and three aces. Those 19 digs gave her a new career-high.

They weren't the only good server: Wynford was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 17 aces. They served seven more aces than Seneca East's also-impressive total of ten.

Despite the defeat, Seneca East saw an underclassman step up: freshman Lillian Burkholder had 25 assists and 12 digs. Burkholder has been hot, having posted 14 or more assists the last five times she's played.

Wynford's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-3. As for Seneca East, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Wynford has already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Buckeye Central on the 4th. As for Seneca East, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Bucyrus on the 4th.
