Softball Recap: Alvarado Indians vs. Ferris Yellowjackets
Alvarado extended their losing streak to nine on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-18 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ferris Yellowjackets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Yellowjackets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 back in March.
Hayden Blair spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, Payton Slovak was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. Brennen Blackwood also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
As for Ferris, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-12-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since February 15th.
On Ferris' side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Landri Davis gave up two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits. Davis has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aubrie Henson, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madeline Welling, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
As of now, neither Alvarado nor Ferris have any future games scheduled.
