Softball Recap: Grainger Comes Up Short

Grainger came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Cocke County Fighting Cocks, falling 7-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Grizzlies in their meetings with the Fighting Cocks: they've now lost four in a row.

Jaylee Nickell made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Grainger now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Cocke County, they pushed their record up to 16-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grainger will host Volunteer at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Grizzlies' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Cocke County, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Carter at 6:00 p.m. The Fighting Cocks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
