Baseball Recap: Newton County Academy Starts Season with Win Against Grace Christian

Newton County Academy had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on the Grace Christian Eagles with a sharp 22-1 victory on Friday.

Cooper Savell and Steven Duke were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Savell pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Duke tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-low in hits. At bat, Savell scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Duke went a perfect3-for-3 with four RBI and one run. The dominant performance also gave Savell a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, Max Ferguson was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Ty Thrash was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton County Academy will head out to take on East Rankin Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grace Christian will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Central Holmes Christian at 5:00 p.m. on February 28th.
