Baseball Recap: Central Takes a Loss

Central extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 9-16-1. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 7-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

Christopher Curiel was cooking despite his team's loss, earning one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.

As for Palo Verde Valley, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 20-5-1 record. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 2nd.

On Palo Verde Valley's side, Wesley Dill made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Dill has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run.

Dill wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Demetrius Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Daniel Garcia also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

While Central had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
