The West Point Dragons will challenge the Valley Vista Monsoon at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Point is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
West Point will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Dobson on Monday. The Dragons blew past the Mustangs 16-5. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Gabby Rodriguez was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Zerianna Gomez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double.
Rodriguez wasn't the only one working in the home run department: West Point lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Valley Vista's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They came up short against Apollo, falling 29-23.
Addison Kennedy and Adria Garcia did some serious damage despite the final result: Kennedy got on base in five of her six plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Garcia went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Garcia has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Aliyiah Juarez was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Valley Vista's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for West Point, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Point hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .409. However, it's not like Valley Vista struggles in that department as they've averaged .464. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Point took their victory against Valley Vista in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 22-6 score. Do the Dragons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Monsoon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
