Baseball Recap: Mattituck Comes Up Short

Mattituck fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Pierson on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Whalers by a score of 2-1. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Whalers this season, with their most recent loss being a 6-1 defeat on Thursday.

Mattituck's defeat was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Pierson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mattituck will face off against Port Jefferson at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tuckers are facing the Royals at the right time seeing as the Royals are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Pierson, they will take on Babylon at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Whalers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
