Basketball Recap: Jacob Martini's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pen Argyl over Mahanoy Area

Pen Argyl lost against Mahanoy Area back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Pen Argyl Green Knights lost to the Mahanoy Area Golden Bears at home by a 55-38 margin. While losing is never fun, the Green Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 685th, while the Golden Bears are ranked 78th).

Pen Argyl lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jacob Martini, who went 5 for 10 en route to 13 points and five boards. Cayden Vishnesky was another key player, putting up 11 points and six rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mahanoy Area to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tanner Zawada, who went 8 of 18 on his way to 22 points along with seven boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was William Mayberry, who posted 12 points and five rebounds.

Pen Argyl dropped their record down to 1-18 with the defeat, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Mahanoy Area, their record is now 18-1.

Pen Argyl didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-16 loss against Wilson Area on the 29th. As for Mahanoy Area, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 55-44 win against Tamaqua on the 28th.
