Recap: Doral Academy Firebirds vs. Miami Country Day Spartans
On Saturday, the Doral Academy Firebirds faced the Miami Country Day Spartans in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Doral Academy's rough 70-45 loss to Miami Country Day might stick with them for a while. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Doral Academy has scored all season.
Doral Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Angelina Deleon, who scored 13 points. Ashley Martinez was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Doral Academy's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-6. As for Miami Country Day, their victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-8.
Doral Academy will take on St. Brendan at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Brendan will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 245th, while Doral Academy is ranked 22nd). As for Miami Country Day, they will head out on the road to challenge American Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. American Heritage is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
