Weslaco gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Nixon Mustangs as they made off with a 3-0 victory. This was payback for the Panthers, who suffered a 3-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

The win didn't come easy: Nixon scored at least 19 points in every set. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-23, 25-23.

Weslaco got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Sati Alonzo out in front who had five digs and five aces. That's the most aces Alonzo has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Desiree Gonzalez, who had 14 digs and two aces.

They weren't the only good server: Weslaco was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nixon only served five aces.

Looking ahead, Weslaco will be taking part in a tournament against Rowe at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Nixon, they will challenge Mission at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup will give the Mustangs their first taste of in-conference action this season.
