Softball Game Preview: Enochs Eagles vs. Downey Knights

Enochs is 9-1 against Downey since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Enochs has six straight victories, Downey has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Enochs' pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Tuesday. They put the hurt on Modesto with a sharp 14-0 win. That looming 14-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Eagles yet this season.

Makayla Alailima was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, six RBI, and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Camila Ramirez Quintana, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Enochs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Downey came up short against Modesto last Thursday, falling 10-4.

Downey's loss dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Enochs, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.

Enochs took their win against Downey when the teams last played on March 13th by a conclusive 10-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Enochs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
