Football Recap: Martin County Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

Martin County entered their tilt with Sebastian River on Thursday with three consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with four. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 21-18 win over the Sebastian River Sharks. That's more bragging rights for the Tigers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Martin County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Anna Staten out in front who picked up 52 receiving yards and two touchdowns. That's the most receiving touchdowns Staten has posted since back in April of 2024. Delaney Gribben was another key player, gaining 91 total yards and a touchdown.

Sebastian River's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Isabella Bowen, who picked up 127 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Karolina Mliczek, who threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns. With that strong performance, Bowen is now averaging an impressive 101.3 receiving yards per game.

Martin County pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.3 points on average over those games. As for Sebastian River, their record is now 2-4.

Coming up, Martin County will face off against Sebring at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Martin County's defense has only allowed 9.7 points per game this season, so Sebring's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Sebastian River, they will take on West Shore at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
