Preview: Churchill Bulldogs vs. Whitman Vikings
After four games on the road, Churchill is heading back home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Whitman Vikings at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Even though Wootton scored an imposing 57 points on Tuesday, Churchill still came out on top. Churchill came out on top in a nail-biter against Wootton and snuck past 59-57. 59 seems to be a good number for Churchill as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Meanwhile, Whitman waltzed into their contest Tuesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 70-67 victory over Landon. The victory was all the more spectacular given Whitman's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while Landon is ranked 15th).
Whitman can attribute much of their success to Hayden Walsh, who scored 21 points, and Thomas Farrell, who scored 27 points along with six rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Farrell has scored at least 25% of Whitman's points. Another player making a difference was Titian DeRosa, who scored six points along with nine assists.
Churchill now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Whitman, they pushed their record up to 5-1 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Churchill didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Whitman when the teams last played back in January, but they still walked away with a 60-54 win. Will Churchill repeat their success, or does Whitman have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
