Softball Recap: Patrick Henry Triumphs

Patrick Henry came out on top against Wauseon on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run sixth inning. The Patriots took their game against the Indians 11-7. The high-scoring effort was just what the Patriots needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Shealin Schmeltz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Patrick Henry got a big performance out of Brooke Scherdt, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Scherdt has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Elisiana Wyandt, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Patrick Henry kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Patrick Henry's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-5. As for Wauseon, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-6.

Patrick Henry didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-9 win against Evergreen on the 23rd. As for Wauseon, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 23-1 loss against Archbold on the 23rd.
