Rangely and Olathe are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Panthers will challenge the Pirates at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rangely is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
Rangely came into this matchup off a tough 17-run loss on Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Byers by a score of 17-15 on Saturday. Even if the Panthers couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Landon Bollinger and Braxton Shaffer stepped up to the plate in a big way. Bollinger went 4-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Shaffer got on base in all six of his plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and one double. Bryson Elam was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Olathe hadn't done well against Cedaredge recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Pirates came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bruins, sneaking past 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since March 24th.
Jack Combs made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Bryce Good was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Bridger Vincent, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Olathe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in four consecutive games.
Olathe pushed their record up to 6-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Rangely, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Rangely has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .504. However, it's not like Olathe struggles in that department as they've averaged .500. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rangely came up short against Olathe in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, falling 10-5. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
