Baseball Recap: Flour Bluff Comes Up Short

Flour Bluff suffered their closest defeat since March 7th on Friday. They fell just short of the Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial Eagles by a score of 6-4. The Hornets have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Flour Bluff got a good showing from Roland Vera, who struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Vera has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Flour Bluff saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Vancini, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that Vancini hit this season.

Flour Bluff's loss dropped their record down to 9-11-2. As for Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-2-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Flour Bluff will challenge Miller at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets are facing the Buccaneers at the right time seeing as the Buccaneers are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, they will head out to take on Tuloso-Midway at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 1.6, the Warriors & Cherokees 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
