Football Game Preview: West Side Roughriders vs. Newark Central Blue Devils

The West Side Roughriders will head out to square off against the Newark Central Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.

West Side can't be too happy about their upcoming road game considering what happened when they opened their season away from home last Thursday. They took a blow against Weequahic, falling 50-0.

Meanwhile, Newark Central entered their tilt with KIPP Newark Lab last Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They walked away with a 24-12 victory over the Sharks. The Blue Devils' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Newark Central found their leader in freshman Taylor Jones, who rushed for 183 yards and one TD on only 11 carries, and also threw for 150 yards and three touchdowns. Jones' longest rush was for an impressive 65 yards, which helps to explain her lofty yards per carry total.

Newark Central's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Aishat Hassan and Briyuanna Carter, who racked up all six sacks between them.

West Side was dealt a bruising 40-0 loss at the hands of Newark Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Roughriders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
