Baseball Game Preview: Del Norte Nighthawks vs. Mt. Carmel Sundevils

Del Norte and Mt. Carmel are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Nighthawks will take on the Sundevils at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Del Norte will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Del Norte let San Pasqual stack five runs on them in the fifth inning on Saturday but luckily Del Norte prevailed anyway. The Nighthawks came out on top in a nail-biter against the Golden Eagles, sneaking past 6-5.

The team relied heavily on Liam O'Day, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Landon Cheshire, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Mt. Carmel fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Sage Creek on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bobcats by a score of 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Del Norte's victory bumped their record up to 16-10. As for Mt. Carmel, they dropped their record down to 16-11 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Del Norte came out on top in a nail-biter against Mt. Carmel in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 4-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Nighthawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
