Volleyball Recap: Bartow Yellow Jackets vs. Lake Gibson Braves
After flying high against Lake Region on Tuesday, Bartow came back down to earth. The Yellow Jackets took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lake Gibson Braves on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Braves earlier this season, when they won 3-0.
The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Lake Gibson scored at least 21 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 26-28, 25-21, 25-23.
Mia Gill paced Bartow's offense, picking up 11 kills. Gill got some help from Kaelyn Hall and her 21 assists. Rilynn Merritt controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.
Bartow has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-5 record this season. As for Lake Gibson, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-10.
