Basketball Recap: Sofia Trujillo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Los Alamos over Mesa Vista

On Saturday, the Los Alamos Hilltoppers lost to the Mesa Vista Trojans on the road by a 59-41 margin. While losing is never fun, the Hilltoppers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Trojans are ranked 33rd).

Los Alamos lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Sofia Trujillo, who posted 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenae Velarde, who put up eight points.

Tana Lopez was her usual excellent self, going 10 of 20 on her way to 28 points and four steals for Mesa Vista. The dominant performance gave Lopez a new career-high in points. Hannah Lopez was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to five assists and five boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Los Alamos and nudges their season record down to 2-14. As for Mesa Vista, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-3.

Los Alamos has already played their next contest, a 54-44 win against Escalante on the 21st. As for Mesa Vista, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-29 victory against McCurdy on the 23rd.
