Baseball Recap: Montpelier Takes Down Edon in a Playoff Battle

Montpelier had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Edon Bombers on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Locomotives in their matchups with the Bombers: they've now won six in a row.

Kenneth Smeltzer made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Wesley Hartsock was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. CJ Fidler was another key player, earning two runs and one stolen base.

Montpelier's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Edon, their loss dropped their record down to 12-9-1.

As of now, neither Montpelier nor the Bombers have any future games scheduled.
