Floyd County is 2-8 against Patrick County since May of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Buffaloes will venture away from home to square off against the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Floyd County sitting on three straight wins and Patrick County on six.
Floyd County proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 12) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Glenvar 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Buffaloes have posted since May 23, 2025.

Emma Biesterveld was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Lilly Mier-Gillispie was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyra Vaughn, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Floyd County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 14 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Patrick County earned a 5-2 win over Carroll County on Tuesday.
The team relied heavily on Ava Hiatt, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Journey Moore, who earned one run and two stolen bases.
Floyd County's record is now 9-1. As for Patrick County, their record now sits at 13-3.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Floyd County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .396. However, it's not like Patrick County struggles in that department as they've averaged .354. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Floyd County got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March against Patrick County by a conclusive 9-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Buffaloes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
