Basketball Game Preview: Mill River Minutemen vs. West Rutland Golden Horde

Mill River is 1-8 against West Rutland since February of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mill River Minutemen are taking a road trip to take on the West Rutland Golden Horde at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Mill River is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They strolled past Long Trail with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 65-49. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Meanwhile, West Rutland had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.1 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 72-53 win over the Rebels. Given the Golden Horde's advantage in MaxPreps' Vermont basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Rebels are ranked 61st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mill River's victory bumped their record up to 3-14. As for West Rutland, their win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1.

Mill River was dealt a bruising 75-21 loss at the hands of West Rutland in their previous meeting back in January. Can Mill River avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
