With a playoff win on the line, Wootton rose to the challenge on Monday. They slipped by the Sherwood Warriors 45-44. This was a revenge game for the Patriots: when they faced off against the Warriors back in February, they had to take a 41-38 defeat.
Leading Wootton to victory were Maya Bellamy and Malia Bellamy. Maya dropped a double-double with 21 points and 11 boards, while Malia dropped a double-double with 13 points and 19 rebounds. Maya has become a key player for Wootton: the team is 7-2 when she posts at least ten rebounds, but 3-10 otherwise. Sherwood's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. The victory (which was Wootton's third in a row) raised their record to 10-12. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.7 points on average over those games. As for Sherwood, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 18-6.
