Football Game Preview: St. Vincent de Paul Mustangs vs. Rancho Cotate Cougars + How To Watch

The St. Vincent de Paul Mustangs will face off against the Rancho Cotate Cougars at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are still undefeated (St. Vincent de Paul has 17 wins dating back to last season, while Rancho Cotate has four).

St. Vincent de Paul is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their matchup last Saturday with ease, bagging a 71-33 win over Arcata. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Tigers are ranked 548th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Vincent de Paul to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mason Caturegli, who rushed for 292 yards and three scores while picking up 17.2 yards per carry, and also picked up 54 receiving yards and one TD. With that strong performance, Caturegli is now averaging an impressive 123.5 rushing yards per game. Gabe Casanovas was another key passer, throwing for 238 yards and six touchdowns on only 14 passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: St. Vincent de Paul was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 384 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

St. Vincent de Paul didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Barrett Chaput and Levi Kennedy.

While Rancho Cotate didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-6), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Montgomery 42-6. That looming 42-6 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cougars yet this season.

Rancho Cotate's win came from a few key players St. Vincent de Paul will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Wyatt Gregori, who threw for 97 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushed for 38 yards. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (153.3). Another player making a difference was Devin Perkins, who picked up 82 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Rancho Cotate's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for St. Vincent de Paul, their win bumped their record up to an identical 4-0.
